Zagreb, (IKA) – The Twenty-Fifth Congress of the World Federation of Catholic Medical Associations (FIAMC) was held in Zagreb from May 30 to June 2, 2018, when new leadership was elected at the General Assembly: Dr. Bernard as the new president, Dr. John Lane as the vice president, Dr. Niklaus Valdis as the general secretary and Dr. Ermanno Pavesi as the treasurer.
Dr. Ars, speaking about the priorities of his presidency, stressed that he would encourage the spiritual growth of Catholic physicians, transmit Christian values and foster greater compassion for patients.
Two new sections were established within the European Federation of Catholic Medical Associations (FEAMC), the Dental Medicine Section and the Youth Section. These sections, initially established as parts of the Croatian Catholic Medical Society, will be represented at the FEAMC by Dr. Žarko Udiljak, president of the Dental Medicine Section, and Mateja Šegović, president of the Youth Section. This marked a big moment for the FEAMC and FIAMC, as well as for the Croatian Catholic Medical Society (CCMS/HKLD), its president, Dr. Ana Planinc-Peraica and Prof. Jasenka Markeljević.
Over a hundred young physicians, dentists, pharmacists and students participated in the congress and were the organizers of the FIAMC’s first Youth Symposium. They also provided assistance with the technical organization, posters of scientific papers, presentations, preparations for a round table on the Affirmation of the Culture of Life, and interactive workshops for students and young physicians.
