"I am particularly delighted because the project came from the lay faithful, who make up the vast majority of the Church. This initiative reflects an awareness of the responsibility of our believers to assume their place in the life of the Church," said Archbishop Devčić.
Rijeka, (IKA) – Rijeka Catholic Television (Riječka katolička televizija( is a new Internet television project that began operations on the feast of St. Vitus, June 15. It was launched by a group of enthusiasts from the School of Theology in Rijeka, led by Pavle Čalogović, and for now is broadcasting experimentally. The first videos were posted on the website www.rikatv.net, which were taken of the celebration of the feast of St. Vitus, a Mass on the Square of the Rijeka Resolution; homilies by the Bishop of Požega, Antun Škvorčević; and VidFesta, a festival of religious music.
Support for the project was provided by the Archbishop of Rijeka, Ivan Devčić, and the Head of the School of Theology in Rijeka, Milan Špehar, whose videos are also on the website. “I am particularly delighted because the project came from the lay faithful, who make up the vast majority of the Church. This initiative reflects an awareness of the responsibility of our believers to assume their place in the life of the Church,” said Archbishop Devčić
This project should provide coverage of the most important events in the Archdiocese of Rijeka and also offer some other contents that will be regularly updated. Support was also provided by professors from the School of Theology in Rijeka: Jerko Valković, Josip Grbac, Anđela Jeličić and Marko Medved, who will be in charge of regular contents such as commentary on events, interpretation of the Bible, historical sketches and Sunday homilies. The events covered will be recorded in their entirety, not just in fragments as practiced by other television stations, and will be retained for archival purposes. Short features and summaries will also be published on the website.
