The cross will be displayed on the stage of the Croatian National Theater during the Pope's encounter with persons from public life, culture, science, politics, business, sports, representatives of religious communities and the diplomatic corps.

Zagreb, (IKA) – On Saturday, June 4, during Pope Benedict XVI’s encounter with persons from public life, culture, science, politics, business, sports, representatives of religious communities and the diplomatic corps at the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb, in the background on the stage will be a copy of a ceremonial curtain by Vlaho Bukovac, Croatian Revival, and a processional cross from the cathedral of St. Lawrence in Trogir. The processional cross is made of wood covered with silver plates. It is 225 cm in height, 70 cm in width and 5 cm in thickness, and was fashioned in approximately the year 1700 using the techniques of embossing, casting and engraving by a late baroque Venetian workshop. The body of the cross is made of wood covered with silver plates, with rounded ends on the arms. On the front side is the body of Christ executed in high relief. St. Lawrence is depicted in low relief on the rounded end of the left arm. On the right arm is St. John of Trogir, at the base St. Jerome and on the top God the Father with a dove symbolizing the Holy Spirit. The surface of the cross is ornamented with the tendrils of stylized acanthus leaves executed in low relief, while the same ornament is embossed on the sides. On the back of the cross is the figure of the Virgin standing on clouds and busts of the evangelists on the arms of the cross.
