First Croatian Magazine about Homelessness
Rijeka
Rijeka, (IKA) – On Friday, September 19, a thousand copies of first Croatian magazine on homelessness and related social topics, launched by the Franciscan Secular Order in Trsat, the initiators of the first homeless shelter in Rijeka, Roses for St. Francis, were published. According to the editor-in-chief and volunteer at the shelter, Siniša Pucić, the journal will not be sold by kiosks but by the “lepers” of our times, the homeless. According to Pucić, these are people who have temporarily lost their sense of dignity, either through their own fault or most often through the fault of the harsh social system, and in this manner will attempt to reclaim it.
The first issue, which will be on sale in early October on the streets of Rijeka and shops, as well as other Croatian cities, presents the work of several Croatian shelters for the homeless, as well as testimonies from the beneficiaries and volunteers at the homeless shelters. The celebrated Croatian skier Janica Kostelić contributed an interview on this subject to the magazine. One of the features of the magazine is a map of the city of Rijeka showing where soup kitchens and other facilities serving the poor are located. The price of the magazine is 8 kunas, half of which will go toward the printing of the next issue and half to the seller.
