Klanjec (IKA )
Klanjec, (IKA) – An exhibition by the eminent academic sculptor Ante Starčević opened on October 21 at the Antun Augustinčić Gallery in Klanjec. At this very well attended opening, prepared by Davorin Vujčić, Starčević presented several dozen bronze figures, medallions, busts and other works, including a plaster cast of the reliefs of the magnificent bronze doors he fashioned for the baptistery of the Cathedral of St. James in Šibenik, depicting the Baptism of the Croatians, Petar Krešimir IV, the Founding of the Šibenik Diocese by the Šubić Family and Nikola Tavelić.
Ante Starčević is one of the very few Croatian artists (including Dulčić, Šulentić, Bulić and later Botteri-Dini) to have devoted much of his opus to religious art during the communist regime of the second half of the 20th century. His monuments, sculptures, altars, mosaics, crucifixes, busts and medallions adorn churches throughout Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
