Verheugen and Sanader at the Šibenik Cathedral

Don Krešimir Mateša emphasized that the Christian roots of Europe are a bond among European countries

Šibenik (IKA) — The commissioner of the European Commission for Expansion, Guenter Verheugen, and a delegation from the Government of the Republic of Croatia, led by Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, visited Šibenik and the Šibenik Cathedral on Thursday, October 14.

In welcoming Commissioner Verheugen and congratulating him on the honorary citizenship awarded to him by the Šibenik City Council at its formal session held on September 29, the pastor of the Šibenik Cathedral, Don Krešimir Mateša, emphasized that the Christian roots of Europe are a bond among European countries. Guenter Verheugen said that it was a great honor for him to be a citizen of Šibenik, albeit honorary, because Šibenik is not “just any city but an old European city with a millennial culture.”
