Prime Minister Sanader Received Delegations from the Croatian and Hungarian Conferences of Bishops

Zagreb (IKA) – On September 9, the president of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, Dr. Ivo Sanader, received delegations from the Croatian and Hungarian Conferences of Bishops led by Cardinal Josip Bozanić and Archbishop Istovar Seregely, according to an announcement by the Government Office of Public Relations.
During this meeting, Prime Minister Sanader pointed out that Croatia and Hungary share a common past and also share a common future in a united Europe. The president of the Government informed the representatives of the two bishops’ conferences about the efforts that the Croatian Government has invested in resolving pressing questions in the Croatian society such as raising the standard of living for all Croatian citizens, measures for economic growth, and resolving social questions. The prime minister also pointed out that the Croatian Government supports respect for each individual, cultural dialogue and the cultivation of Croatian traditional values that are a part of European values. The community, understanding, tolerance and coexistence of all the nations of the European countries have greatly contributed to the work and doctrine of the Catholic Church, which has promoted these values for two thousand years, added the prime minister.
Cardinals Bozanić and Erdö noted that the bishops’ conferences of Croatia and Hungary are preparing through a series of programs for activity within the European Union, whose idea as a community of European countries and nations is supported by both bishops’ conferences. Cardinal Erdö also informed the prime minister about the activities of the Catholic university in Hungary. The president of the Croatian Government said that it would also be good to support this idea in Croatia.
