Zagreb (IKA) – On May 26, the archbishop of Zagreb, Cardinal Josip Bozanic, blessed the newly renovated offices of the Catholic newspaper and publishing house Glas Koncila in Zagreb. At the beginning of the celebration, those present were greeted by the head of Glas Koncila, the Rev. Nedjeljko Pintaric, who recalled that in 1963 Archbishop Franjo Šeper of Zagreb, after the initial experience of the photocopied edition of Glas Koncila, decided to begin the publication of a Catholic newspaper that was initially biweekly and later weekly. This was an exceptional experience for the Church in the spirit of the Second Vatican Council, emphasized the Rev. Pinatric, adding that Glas Koncila at the time of its founding contributed to the building of the Church, thanks to the people who made sacrifices so that the Church was able to have some “breathing room.”
Cardinal Bozanic pointed out that if someone wants a picture of the recent history of the Church as reflected in documents, Glas Koncila is an essential source.
On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Glas Koncila, a video recording was issued by Croatian Radio Television that was prepared by the scenarist and director Ninoslav Lovčevic. This documentary tells of the 40 years of Glas Koncila, with particular emphasis on its beginnings and its predecessor, Glas s Koncila, which began publication at the Franciscan monastery on Kaptol 9.
Today, Glas Koncila has 25 full-time employees and many associates in Croatia and other countries. The editor-in-chief is the Rev. Ivan Miklenic. With the renovation of the offices, a modern data base and new computer system have been introduced. All the editions of Glas Koncila and Mali Koncila-Mak (for children) should soon be available in digital format. In 2001, Glas Koncila moved from its present building at Kaptol 8 into temporary quarters for the duration of the renovation. The renovated office space totals 354 square meters. After the renovation, Glas Koncila now also has a multimedia auditorium at its disposal, with which it hopes to contribute to the cultural scene and optimal dialogue in the spirit of the Second Vatican Council, in order for the word of the Gospel to be spread as far as possible. The renovation also preserves the historical cultural parts of the building, and the north section is over 400 years old.
