Croatian Caritas has Organized a Week of Peace

Particular emphasis was placed upon lectures about great peacemakers

Zagreb, November 23, 2002 (IKA) — During the week of November 18 – 23,
Croatian Caritas organized a week of peace in Zagreb with the motto “Courage for Peace,” to call attention to the needs, challenges and opportunities in Croatia today for working toward peace in the Church and society. Through a series of lectures on great peacemakers, children’s peace-art workshops, prayer and meditative encounters, and dramatic and musical events, Croatian Caritas, within the framework of the Program for Building Peace, has attempted to contribute to a strengthening of the culture of peace and a civilization of love in Croatia. The head of Croatian Caritas, Prof. Mario Bebic, pointed out that Caritas is aware of its own responsibility for building peace within the Church, among Churches, religious communities and society as a whole. Particular emphasis was placed upon lectures about great peacemakers such as Martin Luther King, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, St. Francis of Assisi, Msgr. Pierre Claverie and Mahatma Gandi. Within the week of peace, a book was presented entitled “Bonton u svakodnevnoj komunikaciji o osobobama s invaliditetom” [Etiquette in Daily Communication with Disabled Persons].
