Scientific meeting and exhibition on the Bible
Zadar
Zadar, December 6, 2000 (IKA) — On the occasion of the opening of an exhibition entitled “The Bible in Over a Hundred Languages,” a scientific meeting was organized on December 6 in Zadar. The Zadar Archdiocese possesses a unique collection of Bibles in over a hundred world languages collected over a period of twenty years, started when retired Archbishop Marijan Oblak of Zadar began collecting editions of the Bible in the early 1980s. At the beginning of the scientific meeting, the participants were greeted by Archbishop Ivan Prenda of Zadar. Dr. Adelbert Rebic, a professor at the Catholic College of Theology in Zagreb, spoke about the Croatian translations of the Bible, emphasizing the special link between the city of Zadar and translations of the Bible into the Croatian language, the Zadar priests who used the Old Slavic language (Glagolitic) in the liturgy and the Jesuit Bartol Kasic. After the meeting, the exhibition was opened by Archbishop Oblak, who pointed out that this collection is the largest collection of Bibles in Croatia and therefore has more than local value. The exhibition will be open until February 2, 2001.
