Transfer of the relic of St. Stephen to Hungary

Dubrovnik, August 18, 2000 (IKA) — On Thursday, August 17, at the Dominican monastery in Dubrovnik, a formal transfer was made of a relic of St. Stephen, the first Hungarian king. The relic consists of the upper part of the head of St. Stephen, which has been kept in the monastery since 1530 and had been previously loaned to Vienna in 1771 at the behest of Empress Maria Theresa. This time it is being lent to Hungary for a period of one year, August 20, 2000 — August 20, 20001.
