UCIP (Union Catholique International de la Presse) meeting has ended

Seget near Trogir, April 28, 2000 (IKA) — With discussions on changes in the Bylaws and reports on current events in the region and federation, today, April 28, the working portion of the meeting of the Executive Council of the Union Catholique International de la Presse — UCIP ended, which had begun on April 26 at the Hotel Medena in Seget near Trogir. The members of the Executive Council accepted the Declaration on Austria that urges Austrian Catholic journalists, cultural and religious forces in the country and Church to promote solidarity, responsibility and magnanimity in accordance with Catholic values and the social doctrine of the Church. It was also proposed for the next session of the Council to be held in Harare, Zimbabwe, in order to gain insight into the problems and achievements of the Catholic media in southern Africa. Representatives of UCIP in international political and cultural organizations were selected, and permanent programs were announced for the training young journalists. At this session, the election process began for a new president for the next UCIP congress, to be held in Freiburg in 2001. The current president is Theresa Ee Chooi of Malaysia and the vice president is Jacques Bresset of Switzerland. During the three-day session, approximately 50 members of the Executive Council from around the world were assembled. Tomorrow, April 29, the participants will visit Dubrovnik, where they will meet with Bishop Želimir Puljić of Dubrovik and the minister of tourism of the Republic of Croatia, Pava Župan-Rusković.
UCIP is an organization of Catholic journalists, editors, publishers and journalism professors from all over the world. The Croatian Association of Catholic Journalists has been a member of UCIP since 1991.
