Zagreb, March 30, 2000 (IKA) — The apostolic nuncio in the Republic of Croatia, Archbishop Giulio Einaudi, spoke today, March 30, with the speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Zlatko Tomčić. Their conversation was about the realization of the contracts between the Holy See and the Republic of Croatia, according to a statement issued by the Public Relations Office of the Croatian National Parliament. The statement further notes that Speaker Tomčić and Nuncio Einaudi have corroborated that the contracts will not be changed and that the Church will need understanding regarding the dynamics of the resolution of questions that require considerable material assets. It was also emphasized during the discussion that ecumenicism can reduce national tensions caused by the war. The speaker of the Parliament also pointed out that questions regarding returnees are not a political problem but a financial question that requires support from the international community.
