Bishop Franjo Komarica asks the faithful to pray for an end to warfare and a just peace in Kosovo and Yugoslavia

Banja Luka, March 31, 1999 (IKA) – On Monday, March 29, Bishop Franjo Komarica of Banja Luka, Bosnia-Herzegovina, sent a letter to all the priests of the Banja Luka Diocese in which he appealed to them and all the Catholics in his diocese to pray for an end to warfare and a just peace in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. “We who have recently experienced the horrors of war ourselves cannot and must not remain deaf to the pleas and cries of the multitudes of innocent victims – men, women, the young, the old, children – for the war to end,” emphasized Bishop Komarica. He quoted a remark by Pope John Paul II on his visit to Sarajevo: “Building a just and lasting peace is a task entrusted to all.” Bishop Komarica urged all the parish priests together with the faithful to pray specifically for an end to warfare and a just peace in Kosovo and all of Yugoslavia during the Prayers of the Faithful at Masses held on the days of the Easter Triduum and all the following Sundays and holy days. “I also encourage everyone to perform other acts of love toward the war victims within the organization of our parish and diocesan branches of Caritas. In the future, may God give all of you the strength to show your love to everyone in misfortune,” stated the bishop of Banja Luka.
