Zagreb, 19. 1. 1996. (IKA) – Croatian Society of Catholic Journalists had its annual meeting with the president of the Society dr. Mirko Mataušić as a chairman and with the secretary of the Society Suzana Vrhovski, this morning at Sv.Duh in Zagreb.
Zagreb assistant bishop Marko Culej, president of Croatian Bishops Conference Council for Media, greeted the participants at the opening of the meeting. He emphasized the continual announcing mission of Catholic journalists. At the meeting, overviews were given on the activities of the Society last year: courses for young journalists, held in Zagreb and Rijeka, scholarships for students, spiritual renewal for the members, and participation of the members of the Society at various international congresses and symposiums for journalists. Last year, members of Croatian Society of Cattolic Journalists have got all three awards of Union of Catholic International Press (UCIP) from Geneva, that gathers the societies of Cattolic journalists from all countries in the world. Those awards are given each forth year. The last year winners were dr. Franjo Topiæ from Sarajevo, monthly magazine “Stećak” front Sarajevo and Josip Štilinović from Zagreb.
Colloquium on “Croatian journalism at the beginning of third millennium” is going to be after the meeting. What Church expects from media, preparation of the Church for the Great Jubilee 2000, criticism in Cattolic media, possibilities for Cattolic television and radio foundation, experiences of Slovenian Catholic radio and television and Catholic journalism in new media will be the subjects for discussion at the colloquium.
Colloquium will end with Mass at 18.30 h at St. Antonio church at Sv.Duh in Zagreb.
