Your Holiness, welcome to Rijeka.

For all of us residents of Rijeka it is our greatest honor that our city will be your home over the next five days and the Rijeka will be your host during your Third Apostolic Voyage to Croatia. Welcome to Rijeka, a city boasting a long and tumultuous past, a city of the Rječina River and the Adriatic Sea, a city whose residents take pride in their openness, tolerance and hospitality, which, I hope, you will have to experience four yourself as well.
In Rijeka, Your Holiness, we consider to coexistence of different convictions and worldviews to be an asset. In this city, the ecumenism which you promote so tirelessly, is nurtured with great care. With great happiness and respect we will heed your messages on this occasion.
Allow me, Holy Father, to thank you once again on your visit. I would like to add that in Rijeka and to Rijekans you are the dearest guest.
