Zagreb, March 4, 1999 (IKA) –The Friends of Vukovar, an American fund, signed on March 3 a contract in Zagreb with Croatian Caritas and the Croatian Ministry for Renewal and Development for the renovation of a building in Vukovar that will be used as a special school by child victims of the recent war. This contract is valued at 3 million kunas (about 300.000 dollars). The funds will be delivered this year and next via the Caritas branch of the Đakovo and Srijem Diocese. After this building is completed, Caritas will administer the school. The money for this fund was provided by the Croatian Catholic Association, Croats from Chicago and Croats from the Pacific coast of the U.S., whose representatives signed a contract with Caritas and the ministry. The contract was also signed by the head of Caritas, Josip Grošić, and on behalf of the Ministry for Renewal and Development by Dr. Jure Radić. As noted by the secretary of the fund, Melkior Mašina, in this way Croatian emigrants wish to underscore the bond between Croats both inside and outside of Croatia. The fund wants to remain permanently connected with the school via various programs. The fund has already collected approximately 240 thousand American dollars and plans to continue.
