Slavoski Brod, January 31, 1998 (IKA) The provincial of the Franciscan Province of Bosna Srebrena, Fra Petar Andjelović, together with his associates, visited the Jakes Institute for the Treatment, Rehabilitation and Social Welfare of the Chronically Mentally Ill in the territory of the municipality of Modrica in the Republika Srpska. On this occasion, the provincial gave the Institute medications valued at 30,000 D.M., while a shipment of medications was prepared by the Bread of St. Anthony Society, a charitable institution of the Bosnian Franciscans, that organized the visit to the Institute. The provincial pointed out that he and his associates had not come as representatives of another nation or as representatives of some political party but as faithful Christians.
Providing assistance to those most in need is fundamental to Christianity.
“We were led by the duty of our religious convictions to provide assistance,” said the provincial. Cvijo Zelincevic, head of the Institute, and Franjo Matijević, a neuropsychiatrist, informed those present about the conditions in the Institute and pointed out that there is a great need for every form of assistance. The provincial promised that the Bread of St. Anthony Society will give the Institute a shipment of flour and that the Caritas of the Vrhbosna Archdiocese will provide clothing. It was agreed that these benefactors will send assistance to the Institute on a regular monthly basis.
