Austrian Caritas helps Croats in Odžak with a charitable project "Roof above the head"

Odžak, 26. 10. 1996. (IKA) – Director of Austrian Caritas Peter Quendler and the head of Vrh-Bosnia archdiocese Caritas – center for reception in Odžak Slavo Bago sighed a contract on charitable project “Roof above the head” (“Dach ueber dem Kopf”) at the territory of Odžak county, on Wednesday, 23nd October, at the building of Odžak county. For the project “Roof above the head” Austrian Caritas collected one million German Marks for the renewal of about 250 roofs. The renewal will start next week. Material for the constructions will be transported from Austria by Austrian troops of IFOR. “The life could return here #!in small steps#!. I arrived in Odžak with those who came first to see what their homes look like after the war. I saw people crying over their destroyed homes. That was a distressing scene. I think it is necessary to give hope to the people to return and to stay here. If we shall not help them, that will be a poor Iand and it will always be behind the rest of Europe. Also, Cardinal Puljić asked me if we could help this country “, said Quendler.
Emphasizing that the money was collected by a “multitude of common people” in Austria, he told that he is aware of his responsibility the same way towards those who gave the contribution and towards those who received it. Austrian Caritas started the project “Roof above the head”, in Stari Grabovac, near Novska, in 1992nd. It was also realized in the villages of Bosanska posavina Vidovice and Kopanice, then in Mostar, Ravno, in Lašvanska Dolina, and in Fojnica.
