Bishop Marin Srakić Chosen as the New President of the Croatian Conference of Bishops

Gospić, (IKA) – At the 35th plenary session of the Croatian Conference of Bishops, held at the bishop’s residence in Gospić from October 16 to 18, Dr. Marin Srakić, the bishop of Đakovo and Srijem, was chosen as the new president of the CCB. Bishop Srakić’s predecessor in this office was Cardinal Josip Bozanić, who served two mandates.
Msgr. Marin Srakić was born on July 6, 1937 in Ivanovci. He was ordained to the priesthood on March 6, 1960. Following postgraduate studies, he received a licentiate diploma from the Catholic School of Theology in Zagreb and also earned a second licentiate and doctorate in moral theology from the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome. In 1977, he was appointed as the rector of the theological seminary in Ðakovo and remained in this position until 1989. He has been a professor of moral theology at the school of theology in Ðakovo from 1970 to the present and also taught there before leaving for Rome, from 1966 to 1967.
On February 2, 1990, he was appointed auxiliary bishop of the Ðakovo and Srijem Diocese and ordained a bishop on March 24, 1990. He also held the office of general vicar and senior prepositor of the Cathedral Chapter of Ðakovo and Srijem. On February 10, 1996, he was appointed as the coadjutor bishop of the Ðakovo and Srijem Diocese and assumed the position of bishop ordinary on February 6, 1997.
