Archbishop Vinko Cardinal Puljić visited European Parliament

Strasbourg, 15. 2. 1996. (IKA/KTA) – Vrh-Bosnia Archbishop Vinko Cardinal Puljić visited European Parliament, l3th February. He met the president of European Parliament Klaus Haensch and a great number of representatives of the envoys at the Parliament. Head of the Pan-European Union Otto von Habsburg and the representative of European Parliament for the south-eastern Europe Doris Pack have organized this meeting, as Catholic Press Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bishops Conference (KTA BK BiH) reports today.
By making the victim and aggressor equal, ethnical cleansing and the right of stronger have been legalized, said Cardinal Puljić at the press conference organized by the occasion, talking of his view on the realization of Dayton peace agreement.
Also, Cardinal emphasized that the reason of the division of the territories among entities on 49%:51% basis is unclear to him. Cardinal also talked about his disapproval that Bosanska Posavina has been lost for Croats Catholics in spite they were in
majority there before the war. He also noticed that UN forces were impotent and at the side of the stronger. After the peace agreement had been signed, more efficient forces were sent there. “It is pity”, he said, “that had not been done earlier and by diverse order”. Talking about positive parts of Dayton#!s peace, Vinko Cardinal Puljić emphasized, among other things, stopping of bloodshed, persecutions and imprisonment, opening of communications and traffic, getting the divided families together and more regular humanitarian aid.
Cardinal Puljić said at the end of the meeting with the representatives of European Parliament, that took place after the press conference was finished: “I expect support and real help from you at European Community. I am here today, with you, to thank to everyone who had got familiar, truly and bravely, with our situation and had represented the justice and protection of man. Thank you specially for the help that we got so we could survive. I expect from you to present the principles by what Europe intends to live with and the ability of European community to stop the evil and to protect the Man”.
