Zagreb, (IKA) – On Tuesday, May 13, Croatian Caritas initiated a fundraising campaign to help the earthquake vicitms in China. Citizens and companies in Croatia can participate in the campaign by sending contributions to the giro account PBZ 2340009-1100080340, Ref. No.135; bring monetary contributions designated for the victims in China to every Catholic parish, or call the donation telephone number 060 9010 (each call costs 6.10 kn).

On Monday, May 12, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter scale struck China, with the greatest impact in the Sichuan province. Thus far, approximately 12,000 people have perished but it is assumed that the number of victims could be significantly higher because precise data are still not available. “Only ten days had passed since the tragedy in Myanmar, which afflicted hundreds of thousands of people. As we cannot foresee or choose the time when an accident will happen, I believe that we cannot remain indifferent to the immense suffering following the earthquake in China. Croatian Caritas, in initiating this campaign, wishes to open the opportunity for solidarity and effective love from the people in Croatia to reach the surviving victims in China,” said the head of Croatian Caritas, Ivan Milovčić.
