Many parish churches and chapels at Dubrovnik coast have been destroyed by earth quake, strength of six degrees Richter scale
Dubrovnik, 7. 9. 1996. (IKA) – Many parish churches and chapels at Dubrovnik coast have been destroyed by earth quake, strength of six degrees Richter scale. Among them are parish churches of Mary Magdalene in Benići, of Lady of Rosary in Lisac, of St. Vitus in Smokovljani. Parish church of St. Blasius in Ston, place that was the nearest to the epicenter of the earth-quake is almost totally demolished, one more earth-quake could destroy it totally to the ground, as it happened to the graveyard chapel of the Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Mravnice. Bishop Želimir Puljić visited the territory suffered of earth-quake on Friday, 6th September and met the believers, local residents that survived one more suffering after the war, and once again they had to leave their homes. Bishop gave a statement to journalists and emphasized among other things: “You stay without words when you see this. But there is something encouraging when you see the solidarity of these people and how they help to those who are suffering the most. Let us give all over the hands of God. We have survived such a lot of things, so we shall survive this earth quake, too”.
