Zagreb
An exhibition of printed materials on the heritage of the beatus, held in the assembly hall of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Institute, was prepared by Glas Koncila and will be on view from September 17 to 24.
Zagreb, (IKA) – In the assembly hall of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Institute in Zagreb, an exhibition of printed materials and a bibliography on Cardinal Alojzije Stepinac were presented. The exhibition of printed materials on the heritage of the beatus was organized at the initiative of the Committee for the Celebration of the Tenth Anniversary of the Beatification of Cardinal Alojzije Stepinac and was prepared by Glas Koncila. The exhibition includes approximately ninety books, brochures, scholarly articles and other publications on the life and work of Alojzije Stepinac. For objective reasons, it was not possible to display everything that has been published to date but the exhibited materials present the life, person and work of Blessed Archbishop Cardinal Alojzije Stepinac of Zagreb in a comprehensive manner from various standpoints. Some of the exhibited books were on loan for this occasion from the postular of the Blessed Alojzije Stepinac, the Catholic School of Theology of the University of Zagreb and the Rev. Vladimir Horvat, Ph.D., S.J.
Of exceptional value is the two-volume work Positio super martyrio, which contains collected official documents, data and testimonies which were used in the initiation of the process of the beatification of the Blessed Cardinal Stepinac. Furthermore, great attention is warranted by a collection of Stepinac’s sermons, speeches and letters, through which he remains accessible and close to the people of today. The bulk of the exhibition consists of biographies and texts on Stepinac focusing upon specific parts of his life, including his political trial and sentence. Literary works are also exhibited because aspects of Stepinac’s life were reflected in works by Croatian writers. The variety of the exhibited works is also evident in the range of foreign languages, literary types and publication dates. The oldest exhibited work is by Theodore Dragoun, Le dossier du Cardinal Stepinac, published in the French language in Paris in the year 1958. A book entitled Stepinac govori [Stepinac Speaks] by Eugen Beluhan Kostelić is the oldest exhibited book in the Croatian language, printed in Valencia in the year 1967. The exhibition provides an opportunity to view a large number of works which were banned for many years, printed far from Croatia, as well as editions printed in Croatia up to the present. This exhibition once again represents the community of the Croatian nation, both in and out of the homeland, in gratitude to the Blessed Alojzije Stepinac and the heritage of faith and national values which he bequeathed. The organizer of the exhibition, Glas Koncila, has published a biography of Alojzije Stepinac on its web site, http://www.glas-koncila.hr/bl-alojzije-stepinac.
