First official meeting between the president of the Croatian Conference of Bishops, Archbishop Josip Bozanić of Zagreb, and the president of Croatia, Stipe Mesić

Zagreb, April 11, 2000 (IKA) — The president of the Croatian Conference of Bishops, Archbishop Josip Bozanić of Zagreb, together with the vice president of the Croatian Conference of Bishops, Metropolitan Archbishop Ante Jurić of Split-Makarska, and a member of the Permanent Council of the Croatian Conference of Bishops, Anton Tamarut of Rijeka-Senj, met today, April 11, with the president of the Republic of Croatia, Stipe Mesić, at the Palace of the Archbishop in Zagreb. Following one hour of talks, also attended by the presidential advisor for domestic affairs, Dr. Igor Dekanić, President Mesić announced that they had discussed all the topics of current importance in the Croatian society, especially economic, social and demographic policies and the return home of the displaced persons and refugees from Bosnia-Herzegovina currently living in Croatia. There was also mention of improving the position of young people and families in the Croatian society, and the possibility of creating new jobs.
Asked whether they had discussed the contracts between the Republic of Croatia and the Holy See, the president of Croatia announced that they had been mentioned within the context of the proverb that “contracts must be honored.”
