Laying of Wreaths at the Zrinski and Frankopan Crypt

Archduke Otto von Hapsburg and Foreign Delegations Received by Bishop Mrzljak
Zagreb, April 29, 2003 (IKA) — Archduke Otto von Hapsburg, delegations from the Austrian, Turkish and Hungarian embassies in Croatia; and the chief executive of Međimurje County, Branko Levačić, laid wreaths today, April 29, at the crypt holding the earthly remains of Petar Zrinski and Fran Krsto Frankopan in the Zagreb Cathedral. These two Croatian patriotis were executed on April 30, 1671 in Wiener Neustadt, Austria. The archduke and the delegations were received by Auxiliary Bishop Josip Mrzljak of Zagreb, who showed them the cathedral following the laying of the wreaths. The guests also briefly paid their respects at the tombs of the Blessed Alojzije Stepinac and the late Cardinal Franjo Kuharić. Bishop Mrzljak then received the archbishop and delegations at the archdiocesan cathedral chapter. Participants in the ceremony of the laying of wreaths included the Zrinski Guard of Čakovec, the Varaždin Municipal Guard, the Požega Guard, the Dubrovnik Trumpeters and the Keglević Guard of Kostel. The members of the Zrinski Guard also presented a program outside the cathedral and at Ban Jeličić Square in the center of town.
