Marin Srakić: new bishop of Đakovo and Srijem diocese

Pope John Paul II. accepted the resignation of bishop Ćiril Kos to the service of pastoral governor of Ðakovo and Srijem diocese

Ðakovo, 7. 2. 1997. (IKA) – Pope John Paul II. accepted the resignation of bishop Ćiril Kos to the service of pastoral governor of Ðakovo and Srijem diocese, on February 6. According ecclesiastic law, bishop coadjutor Marin Srakić will take over this service. It was reported by Croatian Conference of Bishops Press Office based on the information from the Apostolic Nunciature in Republic Croatia.
New bishop of Ðakovo and Srijem diocese Marin Srakić was born on July 6, 1937 in Ivanovci. Ordained as a priest on March 6, 1960. After postgraduate studies, received a licentiate diploma from the Catholic Theological Faculty in Zagreb. He received a second licentiate diploma in moral theology from the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome where he also received a doctorate in moral theology. He was appointed assistant bishop of the Ðakovo and Srijem diocese on February 2, 1990 and ordained as auxiliary bishop on March 24, 1990. Appointed coadjutor bishop of Ðakovo and Srijem diocese on February 10, 1996. His services in the Croatian Conference of Bishops are: President of Council for Catechises, member of the Commission for Relations between The Church and State and a member of Supervisory Council of Croatian Caritas.
Ćiril Kos was born on November 19, 1919 in Ribić Brijeg. Ordained priest on July 9, 1944 in Ðakovo. As a joung priest Ćiril Kos was very active in helping catholic people, specially German minority, during the persecution of Catholics at teritory of Srijem and Virovitica after II World War (1944-1946). Served a prison sentence from October 5, 1959 to October 5, 1962. Ordained as a bishop of Ðakovo Srijem on February 6, 1974.
