Msgr. Mijo Gorski Appointed an Auxiliary Bishop of Zagreb

The ordination of the new bishop will be held in the Zagreb cathedral on Saturday, July 3, at 10 a.m.
Zagreb, (IKA) – Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Msgr. Mijo Gorski, cannon of the Cathedral Chapter of Zagreb and head of the Archdiocesan Institution for the Upkeep of Clergy and Other Church Officials, as an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Zagreb and the titular bishop of Epidaurum (Cavtat). New of the appointment was announced on Monday, May 3, at 12 noon in Rome, and simultaneously at the residence of the Archbishop in Zagreb by the apostolic nuncio in the Republic of Croatia, Msgr. Mario Roberto Cassari.
Msgr. Mijo Gorski was born on September 17, 1952 in Gora Veternička, the Parish of Mihovljan, as the ninth child in his family. Following elementary school, he completed the Archdiocesan secondary school in Zagreb. As a seminarian, he pursued theological studies at the Catholic Faculty of Theology in Zagreb, from which he graduated in 1977. He was ordained as a priest of the Archdiocese of Zagreb on June 26, 1977.
From 1978 to 1979, he held the office of parish vicar in Vrbovac, and from 1979 to 1982 in the Parish of St. Blaise in Zagreb. From 1982 to 1997, he held the office of the administrator of the Parish of St. Matthew, Zagreb-Dugave, where he also had the parish church constructed. From 1997 to 1998, he was the administrator of the Parish of St. Anastasia in Samobor and the dean of the Deanery of Okić. From 1998 to 2002, he was the pastor of the Parish of St. Blaise in Zagreb, when he also held the office of the diocesan vicar for the city of Zagreb. In 2002, he was appointed as the rector of the Archdiocesan Theological Seminary, an office he held until 2008. He also served as the chairman of the Committee for the Renovation of the Archdiocesan Theological Seminary Building, leading this project to completion. In 2008, he was appointed a canon of the Cathedral Chapter of Zagreb and head of the Archdiocesan Institution for the Upkeep of Clergy and Other Church Officials. He is a member of the Presbyterian Council and the Board of Advisors of the Archdiocese of Zagreb.
