Joint press conference held by Bishop Uzinić and Imam Herić of Dubrovnik – "Our intention is not to judge the political organizations, as we are religious communities, but to state clearly that some things being done in the name of God are not and cannot be in the name of God but are the betrayal of God. The Cardinal and Metropolitan urge the faithful to pray for peace, especially for the Christians suffering in Syria and Iraq, and those in authority to do everything in their power to avoid the further suffering of the population.

Eparchial Vicar Milan Vranešić recalled Don Živko speaking about unforgettable moments spent with the people of Žumberak, absorbing those foundations for life, which, he used to say, cannot be obtained through pretentious scholastics, physics or mathematics, but only from venerable mountain highland wisdom.

He will be remembered by generations of readers, admirers and parishioners.

He was a legend of Croatian journalism and a fearless champion of justice. We shall miss the vibrancy and determination with which he defended his positions.

One of the greatest names in Croatian journalism, the first editor-in-chief of our agency, has died in Zagreb at the age of 83.

I come with joy, without prejudice, and with an open heart to all the citizens of Croatia and Slovenia. I will be sincerely ready for dialogue with all who are well-intentioned. I will respect the freedom of all above all, and dialogue, forgiveness and reconciliation shall be the principles that I will try to apply in practice, because I profoundly believe that these are the values that spring from the very heart of Christ's gospel and affect each of us, but also all of us together, said the Serbian Orthodox Metropolitan.
