The President of the European Network of the Institute for Family Policies, Dr. Lola Velarde, presented the results of an investigation of the demographic situation in European countries conducted by her institute at the request of the European Bishops' Conferences

In the year of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of his "birthday – dies natalis – through his martyrdom," we especially wish to recall that during the very difficult times when atheistic communism was imposed, the Blessed Stepinac fought to defend the fundamental rights of every person and every nation in a Christian way, and sacrificed himself in order to defend and protect all the persecuted, said the President of the CCEE, Archbishop Peter Cardinal Erdö of Esztergom-Budapest.

The Plenary Assembly was discussed by the President of the CCEE, Cardinal Peter Erdö, Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest; the Vice President of the CCEE, Cardinal Josip Bozanić, Archbishop of Zagreb; and Cardinal Jean-Pierre Ricard, Archbishop of Bordeaux

"We celebrate the Truth that we cannot and will not allow anyone to deny or alter, distort or invalidate, not for any price or ransom… the 'pure' Truth, not colored by ideologies or political expediencies. Not the crippled and forcibly edited or annihilated Truth. Unfortunately, it seems that there is no clear desire or will to investigate and make known the Truth of our history in an impartial and dispassionate manner."

The appeal was issued by the Justice and Peace Commissions of the Croatian Conference of Bishops and the Bishops' Conference of Bosnia and Herzegovina

"Today I shall not make great promises. I am aware of the situation in the Church and society, with all its beautiful and painful aspects. This is my, this is our Church and society. I do not have another time or different circumstances. I want to do what is in my power here ¬– to live, work and pray with you and for you, dear brothers and sisters," said the newly ordained Bishop Mijo Gorski
