At this time of crisis, we need independent, courageous and responsible journalists more than ever, emphasized the president of the Croatian Conference of Bishops, Archbishop Marin Srakić.
The main topics discussed at the session were the Church and the media, priests and lay persons who suffered martyrdom during the communist period, the establishment of new dioceses and the Church regarding new religious phenomena
"While companies are making profits, there is no reason whatsoever to lay off employees. Banks in Croatia should be required to make a greater contribution to the Croatian economy, particularly to family-operated and small enterprises, although high interest rates do not promise this. State and local authorities are urged to conduct public life in such a manner that the weakest and most vulnerable are protected by laws and other measures," emphasized the cardinal in his Easter message.
"May penitential pilgrimage to Jasenovac and the purification of memory make it possible to arrive at the truth in freedom, because memory or commemoration protects the truth and freedom! We pray for the moment when the whole truth will be investigated to come as soon as possible, not only regarding the Jasenovac camp but also other places of crime. Thus the weight of infamy will be lifted from consciences and shame from the history of our and every other nation," emphasized Archbishop Srakić.
