The Holy Father “feverently hopes that the anniversary commemoration will be an especially suitable opportunity for profound reflection on the path the agency has taken thus far and the experiences it has acquired, so that it can fulfill its calling in the Church and society in the genuine Catholic spirit of service"
Vatican (IKA) — Pope John Paul II extended congratulations to the Catholic Press Agency — IKA — Zagreb on the occasion of its tenth anniversary. This message, which the Holy Father addressed to the president of the Croatian Conference of Bishops, Archbishop Josip Bozanić of Zagreb, reads as follows: “Having learned of the forthcoming commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the founding of the Catholic Press Agency of the Croatian Conference of Bishops, the Supreme Pontiff fervently desires that this anniversary commemoration will be a particularly suitable opportunity for profound reflection on the path the agency has taken thus far and the experiences it has acquired, so that it can fulfill its calling in the Church and society in the genuine spirit of service, providing reports based upon facts, which are both edifying and constructive, while at the same time characterized by a great sense of responsibility for the news that it transmits and disseminates. The Supreme Pontiff urges all those in positions of responsibility and the associates of the agency to be faithful witnesses to the Gospels and champions of religious values, and to use the ever new possibilities of the mass media rationally and soberly. To all, very joyfully and from the heart, the Supreme Pontiff bestows an apostolic blessing,” states the letter of congratulations to the Catholic Press Agency — IKA — Zagreb, signed by the secretary of state of the Holy See, Cardinal Angelo Sodano.
