Request from the Archdiocesan Caritas of Zagreb for Assistance
Zagreb
Caritas requests assistance in repairing fire damage to the distribution center on Selska Street and collecting donated items to be given to needy children on the Feast of St. Nicholas.
Zagreb, (IKA) – In the fire that broke out in the Caritas branch office at 165 Selska Street on October 10 at approximately 1:45 a.m., clothing, other articles and foodstuffs intended for distribution valued at approximately 41,000 kunas were destroyed. Since this warehouse had been renovated several months previously, total damages have been estimated at 100,000 kunas. Owing to swift and effective intervention by the fire fighters, no one was injured in the blaze, which could have occurred because the warehouse is surrounded by residential buildings. The police investigation at the scene determined that the fire had been deliberately set. The perpetrator is still being sought.
The consequences of this fire will obstruct the work of Zagreb Caritas because this highly convenient facility for the distribution and receipt of assistance, well known to the local population, has been forced to suspend operations. Part of the donated items collected throughout the year for distribution to needy children on the Feast of St. Nicholas was also destroyed in the fire. Due to the new situation, Caritas requests assistance from individuals and companies in repairing the damage to the distribution center and collecting donated items to be given to needy children on the Feast of St. Nicholas.
Donations to Zagreb Caritas can be sent to the Zagrebačka banka, Kuna Account No. 2360000-1101340277 or Foreign Currency Account No. IBAN HR 1823600001101340277 (2100018259).
