The gifts for the Pope presented in Djakovo

Djakovo, (IKA) – In the Green Hall of the Bishop’s Home in Djakovo on the 4th June the gifts for Holy Father have been presented. About forty gifts are exhibited – mostly pictures, then books, embroideries in gold, tapestries, stained glass, sculptures, crosses, vine, honey, etc. The donors are individuals, academic painters and sculptors, theater artists, families, parish communities, associations, etc. A very special place among the gifts take the Commemorative medallion with the image of “Our Lady of Osijek” in solemn binding, the gift of the city of Osijek and of the Franciscan monastery, as well as a gift of the city of Djakovo, the traditional costumes from the nearby village of Gorjani. The costumes are going to be handed over to the Pope by mr. Zoran Vinkovic the mayor of Djakovo. Among the gifts are also: the painting Corpus Mysticum, “Death of Christ” painted by mr. Dimitrij Popovic, academic painter; two paintings by mr. Smiljan Popovic, acadedmic painter – Portrait of John Paul II; collection of books of the “Croatica” series, published by “Rijec”, Vinkovci; collection “Hrvatska knjizevnost u 100 knjiga” (Croatian Literature in 100 books), published by “Privlacica”, Vinkovci. There are also two unique tapestries – baring the imagee of John Paul II and of the Cathedral of Djakovo. Some of the gifts will be handed over to the Holy Father on June 7 in Osijek and Djakovo, whereas others will be showed to the Pope in the Green Hall of the Bishop’s Home in Djakovo during his private visit. The Holy See is going to send a special thanks to whoever has provided the gift with the respective address.
