The rector of the Pontifical Croatian Institute of St. Jerome in Rome, Anton Benvin, a priest of the Krk Diocese, died tragically on Wednesday, September 18, in Rome.

Vatican, September 19, 1996. (IKA) – The rector of the Pontifical Croatian Institute of St. Jerome in Rome, Anton Benvin, a priest of the Krk Diocese, died tragically on Wednesday, September 18, in Rome.
Anton Benvin was born on September 14, 1935 in Valun on the island of Cres.
He studied in Rijeka, Pazin, Zagreb and Rome where he received a doctorate. In 1992, he was appointed the rector at the Pontifical Croatian Institute of St Jerome in Rome where he was distinguished by his forvent pastoral and cultural activity for the Croatian community in ltaly. In addition to his regular duties as rector, he promoted many cultural projects and events. Recently, together with the Croatian ambassador to the Holy See, Ivo Livljanić, he was preparing a large exhibition entitled Monumenta Vaticana Croata, with the intention of assembling all the important landmarks of Croatian endeavors and creativity connected with Rome by the year 2000.
