Unveiling and Blessing of the First Monument to Unborn and Innocent Children
Karlovac
Karlovac, (IKA) – On October 5, the feast day of St. Faustina Kowalska, the first monument to unborn and innocent children in Croatia was formally unveiled and blessed in the Karlovac cemetery of Jamadol. The initiators of the idea for erecting the monument are the Bethlehem Center for the Unborn and the Gabriel Association for the Promotion of Values and Respect for the Gift of Life. The monument is a type of reminder of all the unborn and innocent children that are no longer with us, not only those who were aborted but those who died as the result of miscarriage, illness, accidents, hunger or thirst, and all who were abused or exploited.
The monument of the Merciful Jesus, as St. Faustina Kowalska saw him, is the work of the sculptor Franjo Haramina of Zaprešić. The statute is of white marble, 180 cm in height and approximately 800 kilograms in weight. The unveiling was performed by the mayor of Karlovac, Damir Jelić.
In the presence of a number of priests, the monument was blessed by the dean of the Karlovac Deanery, the Rev. Ferdinand Vražić.
