Zadar: Prayer for the Departed Pope
Zadar (IKA )
Zadar, (IKA) – As a sign of sorrow for the departed Pope John Paul II, the bells of the Cathedral of St. Anastasia [sv. Stošija] in Zadar tolled for a half an hour following the announcement of the news of the Pope’s death. The Zadar faithful spontaneously assembled outside the Cathedral of St. Anastasia. While the cathedral was opened, they humbly waited in silence, prayed, lit candles at the cathedral gates and placed a scarf that the faithful had carried on the day of the Pope’s visit to Zadar, with the Pope’s logo and motto of his visit to that city, on the wall. The prayer of the Glorious Mysteries of the rosary with meditations was led in the cathedral by the general vicar of the Zadar Archdiocese, Msgr. Ivan Mustać, who said that we are connected to John Paul II with religious, human and emotional bonds. A large number of young people participated in this prayer. The Pope’s throne, from which he led the celebration of the Liturgy of the Sixth Hour during his visit to Zadar in 2003 at the Forum, and from which he blessed “the beloved people of Croatia,” was placed in the center of the presbytery.
