Session of the Justice and Peace Commission of the Croatian Conference of Bishops
Zagreb
Zagreb, (IKA) – The Justice and Peace Commission of the Croatian Conference of Bishops held a regular session in Zagreb on Tuesday, October 21, according to a statement issued by the Commission. Auxiliary Bishop Vlado Košić of Zagreb presided. In the discussion of the current situation in the Croatian society, the Commission, among other questions, devoted attention to the world financial and economic crisis that will also affect our country. The Commission is of the opinion that this crisis is due to the moral crisis based upon greed and distrust in society. In such a context, the Commission urged all people to act morally in society, especially Christians. .
The Commission also discussed media headlines about the nonparticipation of the Croatian Commission in the General Assembly of the Conference of European Justice and Peace Commissions, which was held in late September of this year in Belgrade on the topic of forgiveness and reconciliation. The Commission concluded that the media had not accurately informed the public on the nature of this meeting and the reasons why the Croatian side did not participate. In this case, the Justice and Peace Commission of the Croatian Conference of Bishops was not perceived as an equal partner and for this reason decided not to participate.
The Commission also discussed problems including questions connected with the topics of corruption, violence in the society, unpaid salaries and the role of the media in the Croatian society, and announced that a document and statement in connection with these topics will be issued to the public, according to the statement by the Justice and Peace Commission.
