Archbishop Giulio Einaudi to celebrate golden and silver jubilees

Zagreb, April 18, 2001 (IKA) — The apostolic nuncio in the Republic of Croatia, Archbishop Giulio Einaudi¸ will celebrate the 50th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood and the 25th anniversary of his service as a bishop on April 24 in Zagreb. These jubilees will be celebrated on the first day of the session of the Croatian Conference of Bishops at the Zagreb Cathedral, beginning at 7 p.m., when Archbishop Einaudi will conduct a solemn Mass at which he will deliver the sermon. In the presence of the Croatian archbishop and bishops, introductory remarks will be delivered by the president of the Croatian Conference of Bishops, Archbishop Josip Bozanic.
Msgr. Einaudi was born in 1928 in San Damiano Macra in the Saluzzo Diocese of the Italian Piemonte region. He studied philosphy and theology at the local diocesan seminary and was ordained to the priesthood in the Saluzzo Cathedral on June 29, 1951. After performing pastoral duties for a short period as a substitute for the cathedral parish priest in Saluzzo, he continued his studies in Rome where he received a doctorate in theology at the Pontifical Lateran University on May 26, 1956, and a doctorate in canon law on April 30, 1960. In the meantime, he also completed two-year studies at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy. From 1960 to 1965, he was the secretary of the delegation of the Holy See in Bangkok for Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. From 1965 to 1971, he was the secretary of the apostolic delegation in Washington, D.C., and from 1971 to 1974, the secretary of the apostolic nunciature in Kigali for Rwanda, and in Bujumbura for Burundi. From 1974 to 1976, he was the secretary of the apostolic nunciature in Lisabon, Portugal. On November 10, 1976, he was appointed the titular archbishop of Villagmagna in Tripolitania (today Henchir-Sidi-Abdein in Libya) by Pope Paul VI and the apostolic nuncio in Pakistan. On January 2, 1977, he was ordained archbishop in the Saluzzo Cathedral. Before assuming the duties of the apostolic nuncio in the Republic of Croatia, Archbishop Einaudi was the apostolic nuncio in Afghanistan (1976–1980), Cuba (1980–1988) and Chile (1988–1992). Archbishop Giulio Einaudi was appointed as the apostolic nuncio in the Republic of Croatia on February 29, 1992 and formally presented his credentials to the president of the Republic of Croatia on May 11 of the same year.
