On Thursday, April 30, the bishops of the Croatian Conference of Bishops issued a letter to priests and the faithful on the conducting of Masses and other liturgical celebrations during the COVID-19 epidemic, which stated, among other things, that each bishop would adopt specific provisions for his diocese, based upon the recommendations of the Croatian Institute of Public Health.

On Monday, March 23, in the aftermath of the earthquake that struck Zagreb and the surrounding area on Sunday, March 22, the Archbishop of Zagreb, Cardinal Josip Bozanić, provided words of encouragement to the faithful and citizens of Croatia, expressing his human, Christian and episcopal closeness to all who are suffering.
In the context of limiting the spread of COVID-19, on Thursday, March 19, the archbishop of Zadar, Msgr. Želimir Puljić, president of the Croatian Conference of Bishops, was interviewed on Croatan Catholic Radio (HKR) about the provisional regulations adopted by the CCB, which were to go into effect on Friday, March 20, until further notice.
Cognizant of the present challenging circumstances, as shareholders of the responsibility for the health and lives of the faithful and other citizens, and in compliance with the most recent measures by the Civil Protection Headquarters of the Republic of Croatia, the Croatian Institute of Public Health and the Ministry of Health, we, the bishops of the Croatian Conference of Bishops, hereby adopt provisional measures that shall enter into effect on Friday, March 20, 2020, and remain in effect pending a different decision.

The President of the Republic of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, bestowed the Grand Order of King Dmitar Zvonimir with Sash and Morning Star upon the President of the Croatian Conference of Bishops and Archbishop of Zadar, Msgr. Želimir Puljić, on February 14, at the Presidential Palace in Zagreb.
On February 14, the President of the Republic of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, posthumously bestowed the Grand Order of the President of the Republic Franjo Tuđman with Sash and Great Morning Star upon the former Archbishop of Zagreb, Cardinal Franjo Kuharić, as an expression of the highest recognition by the Republic of Croatia for his exceptional contribution to the promotion of Croatian state and national interests at home and abroad, especially for the furthering of state and national unity, state building and the spiritual values of the Croatian nation. The ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace in Zagreb and the decoration was accepted by the Archbishop of Zagreb, Cardinal Josip Bozanić.
