“My presence here today is a new token of the special historical ties, profound mutual respect and active desire for cooperation that have always bound the Holy See with this country,” emphasized Archbishop Lajolo, who said in his sermon: “Europe, who would like to ignore her own Christian roots, would ignore that which is great and good, and that which our ancestors received from the Christian faith and transmitted to us.”

“Besides concern for abandoned children and the elderly, charism encompasses concern for the poor, catechesis, missions and parents. In this way, it continues throughout life - as the culture of life,” emphasized Bishop Pozaić.

The celebration of the Mass in the Zagreb Cathedral was conducted by Cardinal McCarrick of Washington, D.C. - Cardinal Bozanić urged the faithful to include the victims of the recent Indonesian earthquake in their prayers, for whom the collection was intended.
