The Commisison expects the Croatian authorities to put an end to the state of uncertainty and illegality surrounding this potentially very dangerous project, to withdraw from it and to inform the Croatian public and foreign partners of its withdrawal.

The signed protocol is a step in achieving religious freedom in the armed forces, by which Croatia enters the circle of countries with a high level of religious freedom and can serve as a type of guidepost for co-existence and tolerance to many countries encumbered by religious tensions and intolerance.

Croatia’s European future is inseparably linked with social cohesion and the continued development of the social state. The necessary reforms of the social state must not endanger the basic social standard and domestic experts should not be ignored in this reform. Religious persons, particularly members of the Catholic Church, are urged to devote more attention to the development of “social spirituality.”
