The Regular Plenary Session of the Croatian Conference of Bishops Has Begun

Zagreb, (IKA) – The 53rd regular plenary session of the Croatian Conference of Bishopsbegan on October 11 at the CCB headquarters in Zagreb and will continue through October 13. The session is being chaired by the President of the CCB, Archbishop Želimir Puljićof Zadar, who spoke in his opening remarks about the main topics that will be addressed. Announcing that one of the topics will be the family, Archbishop Puljićsaid that the issue of how to improve preparation for marriage will be considered because, as he said, “well prepared families contribute to the renewal of society, which is so necessary for us, and families become the principal place where faith is transmitted to new generations.”
Members of the Mixed Commission on Cardinal Stepinac will report on their first meeting in Rome and the participants at the session will become acquainted with the new blesseds of the Catholic Church, who suffered martyrdom in Albania between 1945 and 1974, including several of Croatian descent.
There will also be discussion about two anniversaries: the 25th anniversary of the reintroduction of religious education in the public school curriculum and the 40th anniversary of the beginning of the nine-years of preparations for the thanksgiving commemoration of 13 centuries of Christianity among the Croats. In connection with the first anniversary, Archbishop Puljićsaid that there will be an informative discussion at the session, a commemoration at the Croatian National Theater on October 13 at 6 p.m., and day-long symposium on Friday, October 14.
At the session, the presidents of the commissions, councils and committees of the CCB will submit reports on their work and discuss the mandates of the bodies of the CCB and the delegates to sessions of other bishops’ conferences during 2017. The session will end on Thursday, October 13, and at noon of that day there will be a press conference to present its work and conclusions, announced the President of the CCB.
