Pope Leo XIV Accepts Msgr. Eterović’s Resignation Upon Reaching Age Limit

Pope Leo XIV accepted on Thursday, April 9, the resignation of Archbishop Nikola Eterović, the Apostolic Nuncio to the Federal Republic of Germany, upon reaching the age limit of 75, and appointed in his place the current Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya, Msgr. Hubertus Matheus Maria van Megen, the Holy See Press Office reported.

Msgr. Nikola Eterović was born on January 20, 1951, in Pučišća. 

He was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Hvar in 1977 and was ordained a bishop on July 10, 1999, in the Cathedral of St. Stephen I, Pope and Martyr, in Hvar, by the then Secretary of State of the Holy See, Cardinal Angelo Sodano. 

He was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Germany in 2013. Prior to that, he served as Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine and, from 2004 to 2013, as Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops in Rome. In 2009, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Titular Archbishop of Cibalae, corresponding to present-day Vinkovci.
