Washington, May 8, 1995 (IKA) – Bishop of Worcester Daniel P. Reilly, chairman of International Policy Committee of the United States Catholic Bishops Conference, sent a letter of solidarity to the Archbishop of Zagreb Cardinal Franjo Kuharić. “I am disturbed and saddened by the news of the indiscriminate attacks on Zagreb and the renewed fighting in Croatia. Even children in hospitals are not safe! I pray for the children and the other innocent victims, and hope that this latest atrocity does not portend, as I fear it might, an escalation of a war that has already brought so much suffering to the Balkans. We will continue to support your efforts to keep alive hopes for peace, justice and reconciliation. The Bishops recent statement on the end of World War II was a courageous call for authentic repentance, and should be a significant step in the difficult process of healing and reconciliation”, emphasizes bishop Daniel P. Reilly in his letter to Cardinal Kuharić.
